24 first-timers finish Auckland Marathon!

We had 23 first-timers running the 2011 Auckland Marathon, and one running the half marathon, and all 24 finished! Congratulations to all. There was a shared morning tea after the training run on Sunday 13 November, at which the first-timers were presented with certificates.

It had to happen!
In 2009, for the first time since 1977, we had one first-timer fail to finish their first marathon. Gutted. Up until now we've had a proud tradition of never once failing to get a new member across the finish line of their first marathon. And that tradition has stood since 1977 so it's quite an achievement!

It has to be said though that the young lady was injured and decided to run the marathon anyway, against our advice. Oh well, you can't win them all.
