Sunday Pack Runs...

Covid-19 update. While Auckland is at this Alert Level 3, the YMCA Fitness Centre is closed and the Auckland YMCA Marathon Club need to ensure we comply with the government guidelines. Therefore our scheduled group runs are suspended while Auckland is at this Alert Level.  

We run & walk every Sunday morning at the times below. It pays to arrive 15 minutes early to get a park and get changed. We have great showers so bring a towel for after the run and enjoy a tea/coffee & muffin with fellow members.

The current club programme is run every Sunday unless noted below.

  • 8:00 am - Runners. 7.00 am - Walkers

Note: We run at 7:00 am from January (6:00am walkers from 16 Feb) until the week before the Rotorua Marathon in May, and at 8:00 am after the Rotorua Marathon until Christmas (7:00am for the walkers from 12 July until AKLD Marathon).

Sunday 21 June:
Week 01; 21 km. Hillsborough, here we come! 15 km for non-marathoners - and you are spared Hillsborough.

Rotorua: Week 02; 23 km. One Tree Hill, Orakei Basin & Tamaki Dr. 15 km for non-marathoners.

Sunday 05 July: 
Week 03; 24 km. Coyle Park then Blockhouse Bay Rd and back across Auckland. With extra option of boardwalk in Westmere. 18 km for non-marathoners.

Sunday 12 July:
 Week 04; 26km. Tamaki Dr to St Heliers and back through Remuera. 18km - turn right (because you'll get wet going left) at Mission Bay, Kepa Rd, Shore Rd, Ayr St and home

Sunday 19 July:

Rotorua: Week 05; 27. km. Down Chinaman's Hill, Pt Chev and on to the cycleway.  Exit on Rosebank and head to Avondale, St Lukes a and Newmarket. 18 km for non-marathoners, out to Rosebank  Roadand and back along the cycleway.

Sunday 26 July:
Rotorua: Week 06; 29km. College Hill, up to Parnell, through Newmarket and head to Remuera. Down Upland and into Orakei to end up on the waterfornt.  Follow your nose back to THAT hill again. 20km - for the half marathoners as per AKLD Week 01.

Auckland: Week 01:  20km. Same route as the Rotorua half, College Hill, up Gladstone, St Stephens and into Newmarket.  Loop down Bassett and up Brighton then back to the Y.

Sunday 02 Aug:
Rotorua: Week 07; 29km. Panmure basin here we come (no time for swimming). 18km for half marathoners - Turn left at Ladies Mile, back along Remuera Rd (oh joy) and through the Domain.

Auckland: Week 02; 23km. Stay with the pack to Lunn Ave where you will turn leaft, Back along Marua Rd, Remuera Rd and through the Domain

Sunday 09 Aug:
Rotorua: Week 08; 32 km. It's our first 26-miler so a loop around Mangere Mountain. 19 km for half-marathoners, it's a loop through Cornwall Park and Royal Oak and back home.

Sunday 16 Aug:
Rotorua: Week 09; Only" 27 km today but with a nasty climb over Mt Wellington in the middle. Just remember, "hills are my friend!". 18km for half-marathoners, turn left on Michaels Ave and head home via Marua and Remuera Roads.

Sunday 23 Aug:
Rotorua: Week 10; 33 km. One for the Westies, way out Te Atatu way and back past the cemetary. Oh, and there might be one or two hills. 22 km for half-marathoners, out to Rosebank Road and then turn for home.

Week 5


Auckland: Week 05; 27 km.  Run the Rotura full out to Te Atatu then turn around and run back along the cycleway to Pt Chev. Loop around Western Springs via Motions Road, Old Mill Road and Surrey Crescent before heading home up Great North Road.

Sunday 30 Aug: 
Rotorua: Week 11; 27 km. A big loop out Hillsborough way and Penrose via One Tree Hill.20 km for half-marathoners, out Mt. Roskill, 3 Kings and home via Manukau Road.

Auckland: Week 06; 29 km.  Same route as the Rotorua full but with a couple of extra ks at the end.  Continue along K'Rd to Pollen and back to the Y along Hopetoun Street.

Sunday 06 Sept:
Rotorua: Week 12; 32 km. Glen Innes via Tamaki Drive both ways. 22 km for half-marathoners, St. Heliers and back.

Rotorua: Week 13; 26 km. Halsey Drive, Lynfield. Hills galore! 18 km for half-marathoners.

Auckland: Week 08: 32 km. Head out on the Rotorua full route but detour for some extras at Three Kings and head for  home via Mt. Smart Road, Rockfeild Road, Great South Road and the Domain.

Rotorua: Week 14; 16 km. Tamaki Yacht Club & back. Yep, a nice taper for the last week of the build-up. 12 km for half-marathoners, Royal Akarana Yatch Club.
