Club News & Events - August 14  2021

Hold everything

Are you prepared ? You know anything can go wrong on the day. Best to read the notices and instructions then. No, it is not Marathon weekend but we still need to be organised for these longer runs and walks. The Covid-19 Alert Levels can change quite quickly, so this may mean we need to pause our group gatherings again.

Week 4 means 26km for our build-up to  Auckland Marathon and that the walkers will start from the Vincent St YMCA at 7am from now on. Runners start at 8am. Do allow extra time to find a car park perhaps on the surrounding streets around Hopetoun St bridge.

Hopefully at this stage you have worked out what paced pack allows you to get through the LSD walks or runs, with a little energy left towards the end.
Regular Pack Leaders should be organising a competent person to take their pack if they are not going to be at the club on a Sunday.
Note: there is discounted electrolyte Leppin and Clif Gels & Bloks available at the Club for your training fuels.

Have a chat to others in your pack about what they do for training during the week. There are various groups that meet up for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday runs and walks. Check the closed Club page
facebook/groups/YMCA Marathon Club and the public social media pages for more details instagram/aucklandymcamarathonclub or facebook/aucklandymcamarathonclub

Week 4 - 26km out East with a few hills mapmyrun/routes/marathon/gpx.
Half Marathoners 16km mapmyrun/routes/halfmarathon/gpx.

Congratulations to all of our Taupo Marathon Half Marathon and 10k finishers. So great to see so many there and how about those photos and Insta clips :-) Thanks Deen and everyone that contributed to a successful weekend away.

Now here is something a little different. How about putting your stage performing talents to good use. They are looking for extras in a RNZ - NZ On Air webseries made in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation.
It has "a quick scene that involves a shot of an athletic team of 5 or 6 seniors who are gearing up to play the core team; stretching, talking and putting on netball bibs. We'd love to involve an organisation with members who are athletic and around 60 years + if possible!"
The scene will only take 1 - 2 hours to shoot, and "we'd gladly give a koha donation of $500 NZD to the YMCA Marathon Club as a token of our gratitude for the time and effort given by any members willing to participate and the club for facilitating!" Filming will take place in Henderson between Aug 23 and Sep 3 - we'll know the actual day next week.
If you fit the bill - 60+, athletic, available - and would like to take part, please let one of the committee know asap. It is sure to be fun!

Our regular Sponsors have played  a very important role, in helping to keep the Club functioning. Please support them where possible.
The Digital ColLab are helping to redevelop the Marathon Club website
Sales on Behalf.co.nz for the great car sales service.
Shoe Clinic/ponsonby-running-shoe   provide discounts, excellent sports gear and services for club members.
Waitemata Local Board supporting our club rental costs.

How about the Olympics/tokyo-2020/results/mens-marathon
last Sunday. That was great to watch live back at our club. We could feel and share some of the athletes pain. Thanks again to Isla and Deen for organising that and to everyone who contributed to the shared morning tea.

Help out at the club where you can and do support our events and commitments. Contact us run@ymcamarathon.org.nz

Note, we do stop briefly for water at regular intervals on our long runs, so be sure to bring along a drinking container. Look after the newer members and keep your eyes open for hazards. Let us know if you would like to be a Pack Leader for your preferred pace group.
The marathon and half marathon weekly build-up routes are on the updated club website YMCA Marathon.org.nz/club-programs
Also this year a copy of the route map will be published to FB & Instagram each week.
